Richard graduated from South Australian Institute of Technology with a degree in Physiotherapy in 1985. His first job was in the Apple Isle at Launceston General Hospital where he was involved in all areas of hospital physiotherapy ranging from intensive care to disability specific school programs. It was here his love for the wild places of Tasmania blossomed, and a lifelong desire to walk the path less trodden, including Nepal, China, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. After further work in both the public and private sector, Richard traveled to north east Victoria with a view to picking tobacco for a few months, moving onto Cairns then returning to South Australia. That was in 1991; and apart from travel and a stint in Melbourne, he hasn’t moved on to Cairns yet!
In 1997 he began his four year intensive training in the Feldenkrais Method, which has informed his view of health, dysfunction, learning and being in the world ever since. Richard joined Flexout Health in 2003 when it was a “shoe box in Dean St” and has lovingly evolved into “part of the furniture” ever since! He has a strong background in marathon and trail running, as well as long distance road bike riding. As such, he has a well developed understanding of the training required and the injuries endured in these activities. When not at work, Richard is likely in the car being a taxi for two of his children (the eldest can drive herself!) as they pursue their soccer and circus dreams; wandering the hills of East Albury with his dog Max, or doing a takeaway coffee run to Rita’s Kitchen, Mr Benedict’s or Cafe Musette.
