Building Strong Foundations: Flexout Health’s NextGen Strength & Conditioning Program

Introduction: Building Strong, Healthy Young People

When you think about strength and conditioning, you might picture young athletes preparing for their next game or competition. But exercise is about much more than sport.

At Flexout Health, we believe the teenage years are an important time to build strong foundations for movement, confidence, healthy exercise habits and long-term health.

Our NextGen Strength & Conditioning Program is designed specifically for 12–17-year-olds who want to improve their athletic ability, stay injury-free, train smarter and/or improve their overall health.

Whether your teenager plays competitive sport, enjoys recreational activity, is new to exercise or has been referred for support with their general health, NextGen provides a safe and supportive environment to help them become stronger and more confident.

Run by our team of Accredited Exercise Scientists and Exercise Physiologists, the program combines expert coaching, individualised exercise and a positive group environment.

Why Exercise Matters for Teenagers

The teenage years are a time of significant physical growth and change. Developing good movement and exercise habits during this time can help set the foundations for a healthy and active lifestyle.

When properly supervised, strength training is safe and beneficial for young people. It can support strength, coordination, bone health, movement skills and confidence (Faigenbaum & Myer, 2010).

For young athletes, this may help improve performance and reduce injury risk.

But the benefits extend well beyond sport.

For teenagers who are not involved in organised sport, structured exercise can provide an opportunity to:

  • Build strength and physical confidence
  • Become more comfortable with exercise
  • Develop healthy movement habits
  • Improve general fitness
  • Learn safe exercise techniques
  • Build confidence in a supportive environment
  • Support their individual health goals

At Flexout Health, we focus on helping young people train safely, move well and build healthy foundations, whatever their reason for joining.

What’s Included in the Program

Our 10-week NextGen Strength & Conditioning Program offers:

  • Small group training in a supportive environment
  • Supervision by Accredited Exercise Scientists and Exercise Physiologists experienced in working with young people
  • Individual assessments and customised exercise programs
  • Exercise tailored to each teenager’s sport and individual health goals
  • A focus on safe exercise techniques to help young people stay healthy and strong
  • Strength, movement and conditioning exercises
  • Sport-specific exercises where appropriate
  • A positive environment where teenagers can build confidence

The program runs across the school year, with sessions delivered throughout the relevant school terms.

Every young person starts from their own level. The goal is not to compete with the person next to them, but to develop their own skills, strength and confidence over time.

Safe, Evidence-Based Coaching You Can Trust

One of the biggest concerns parents can have when their teenager starts strength training is whether the exercise is safe.

At Flexout Health, safety is at the centre of the NextGen program.

Our team focuses on proper technique, functional movement and injury prevention, helping young people develop strong foundations that support both their current health and long-term wellbeing.

We teach teenagers how to perform exercises correctly before gradually increasing the challenge.

This means learning to control movement, understand good technique and develop strength progressively rather than simply lifting as much as possible.

For teenagers who may have specific health considerations or who have been referred for exercise support, this individualised approach is particularly important.

Where appropriate, a young person can also see one of our physiotherapists before their NextGen assessment for a musculoskeletal screening to help determine their suitability for the program.

Tailored to Every Teenager

No two teenagers are the same.

Some are naturally active and involved in multiple sports. Others may have little experience with structured exercise. Some may be looking to improve their performance, while others may simply want to become stronger, healthier and more confident.

That is why NextGen is tailored to the individual, rather than expecting every teenager to train like an athlete.

For a young football or netball player, this might involve exercises designed to support strength, agility and injury prevention.

For another teenager, the focus may be on developing basic strength, improving confidence with exercise and establishing healthy movement habits.

The program can therefore suit young people involved in:

  • Football and netball
  • Athletics and basketball
  • Swimming and cricket
  • Dance and gymnastics
  • Recreational activity
  • General fitness and exercise

You do not need to be a competitive athlete to participate.

Supporting Overall Health and Confidence

Exercise can play an important role in helping teenagers feel confident in their bodies and comfortable with movement.

At Flexout Health, we want young people to understand that exercise is not simply about performance, competition or appearance.

It can be about feeling stronger, moving more confidently, developing independence and learning skills that can support health throughout life.

This is particularly important for teenagers who may have had limited experience with exercise or who have been referred to exercise professionals because of individual health needs.

Our goal is to create an environment where young people feel supported rather than judged.

We encourage teenagers to focus on what their bodies can do, celebrate progress and develop a positive relationship with exercise.

The Flexout Health Difference

At Flexout Health, we understand the unique needs of growing teenagers.

Our team focuses on proper technique, functional movement and injury prevention, while tailoring exercise to each young person’s goals.

We don’t just want teenagers to become stronger for their next game.

We want them to understand how to exercise safely, feel confident in their ability to move and develop habits that can support their health well beyond their teenage years.

Whether your teenager is from Albury, Wodonga, or Myrtleford NextGen provides an opportunity to learn, move and build confidence in a supportive environment.

It is about giving young people the skills and confidence to move well, become stronger and develop healthy foundations for life.
